Established in 2004, St James's Auctions is the premier auction division of Knightsbridge Coins, a landmark business founded by Stephen Fenton in the mid-1970s. Operating from the prestigious St James’s quarter in London, we have rapidly evolved into one of the UK’s most reputable auction houses, specializing in rare coins, medallions, tokens, and historical paper money.

Stephen Fenton
Director, Auctioneer And Lead Co-ConsignmentCoins have appealed to Stephen from a very early age when he started carefully checking and collecting rare pennies from his mother's small change. From these tiny beginnings, Stephen found himself interested in coins, especially the farthings of Charles II, which became his key interest.
After working for several years at Mayfair Coins, Stephen took the plunge and in 1975 with a loan of £1,000 from his father, he started his business from his uncle's carpet shop in Knightsbridge, which explains the name Knightsbridge Coins. In 1980 the shop moved to its current home in St James's, and since then the business has gradually expanded. In 2004 he opened the auction division St James's Auctions.
